Opsss...Not wife ok...but Language for your kids..Hahahaha...
My kids now are fluent in three languages..Father's language ( Hausa), Mum's tongue
( Malay ) and English...with teachers and friends...
How did we do it?
Well.. It is not easy.. That is why I wrote this story under KERJA..KERJA..KERJA
( who remembered one of M.Nasir's song?..It has this word...n he is my favourite singer by the way ).
This means..WORK...WORK..WORK...You want something..you work for it...
1. This is how we started with Widad..Our 1st girl..
WE decided on which language to talk to her :
Baba = Hausa, Mama = English, TV & baby sitter = Bahasa Melayu..
Stick only to that language..
2. 2nd Girl Wardah
We changed our strategy..Of course..prayers help too....At this time ..I prayed that Wardah will have someone who can take care of her when I'm working...She is always sick..and hospitalized for one week. Alhamdulillah...Immediately after she came out from hospital, we met a Hausa lady..we called her Mama Didi (husband is a professor at UTM) and she is not doing anything at home..So..
Baba n Mama Didi = Hausa, Mama = English , TV = Bahasa Melayu.
See..we still stick to the same language..we just add some extra spice which is Mama Didi to streghten the kids Hausa.
Alhamdulillah...Wardah got better..in just I would say a blink and she refuse to mix with any Malays..We always laughed saying that..She thought that she is in Nigeria..Food..Language..People..All surrounded by Nigerian.
3. 3rd girl Wadeaa
Baba n Sisters = Hausa, Mama = English , TV & baby sitter = Bahasa Melayu.
Well..Mama Didi went back to Nigeria..So we just make use of whatever spices that we have.
But... Still we still stick to the same language..we just add other extra spices.
We are now staying in a place surrounded by non-Malays ( IIUM lecturers family ), UIA Apartment.
I went to one workshop few years back..This was what the speaker said..
A child's brain is like sponge..It Absorbs.
At the right time..All the things that has been absorb will come out..
A child's brain can absorb up to
7 LANGUAGES...
Isn't it wonderful?
